The Role of MR Imaging in Lung Cancer
Abstract
MR imaging of 9 patients with pathologically proven lung cancer were retrospectively reviewed to determine the role of MRI in evaluation lung cancer.
MR imaging demonstrated primary lung mass as intermediate signal mass on T1W1 and high signal mass or intermediate signal mass in T2W1 , peripheral atelectasis as more high signal on T2WI and pleural effusion as bright signal on T2WI. And
involved
lymph
node shows same signal characteristic as primary lung mass, but their signal characteristics are variable. MR imaging clearly demonstrated vascular involvement, supraclavicular lymph node metastasis and thoracic vertebral metastasis without using
of
contrast agent.
Therefore, MR images was proved to be complementary imaging modality in the evaluation and staging of more complicated and advanced lung cancer. But, Gd-enhanced I1WJ offered any more information as compared witht nonenhanced. T1WI, thus din't
justify
its rountine use in the management of patients with lung cancer.
